First female taikonaut: 'It's good to stand on Earth'

Andrew Purcell, online producer

rexfeatures_1776241j.jpg(Image: KeystoneUSA-ZUMA/Rex Features)

Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman in space, returned to Earth today as the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft landed safely in Inner Mongolia at 10:05 local time (02:05 GMT). The descent was slowed by parachutes, as well as rockets which fired when the capsule was 1 metre above the ground, slowing the capsule to a touchdown speed of 3.5 metres per second. Upon exiting the Shenzhou-9 capsule, Liu said "It feels so good to stand on Earth, and it feels even better to be home".

Liu and her colleagues, Jing Haipeng and Liu Wang, were returning from the first crewed mission to the Chinese space station, Tiangong-1, meaning "Heavenly Place". As part of their 13-day mission, the trio spent several days aboard the station, during which time they conducted a number of experiments and performed technical demonstrations required for the creation of a larger space station.

The Chinese space agency aims to use the knowledge gained during this mission to help it assemble a larger, modular space station over the next decade. A second crewed flight, Shenzhou-10, is planned for next year before China delivers its more sophisticated Tiangong-2 module to orbit. Subsequent modules will then follow. The completed station is expected to be similar in size to the now-defunct US space station Skylab, which is roughly a sixth of the size of the International Space Station.

Cllr Helen Bromley met Her Majesty during the Diamond Jubilee tree planting in Hatfield Park, on June 14 and, while she knew they would both be at the same luncheon, she had no idea how close to the monarch she would be.

She told the WHT: ?I looked at the table plan and I was on table one, next to me was Lord Salisbury, and next to Lord Salisbury was the Queen.

?It was a real honour and really exciting and absolutely surreal.?

Cllr Bromley said Her Majesty had stayed longer than expected at the function, a decision which, she said suggested how ?comfortable? she was at Hatfield House.

She added: ?The overriding impression was how beautiful she was and there?s such light in her eyes ? there?s a real twinkle in her eyes.?

She said she shared a conversation with Her Majesty about the spectacular Diamond Jubilee Pageant on the River Thames [which was organised by Lord Salisbury].

And when Cllr Bromley said how much she?d enjoyed the accompanying music, Her Majesty exclaimed: ?You see it?s the music!? to Lord Salisbury.

Google makes the Nexus 7 tablet official: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a $199 price (video)

Google makes the Nexus 7 tablet official Android 41 Jelly Bean and a $199 price

Some of the mystery has been taken out of it, but Google has officially taken the wraps off of the Nexus 7, its first reference-grade tablet. The 7-inch slate is the first and currently only device shipping with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and takes advantage of its optimization for smaller tablet screens, magazines and movies -- it's also the first to ship with a finished Chrome for Android. Like was widely suspected, the tablet is built by ASUS (shades of Eee Pad MeMO ME370T, anyone?) and mostly draws our attention in terms of what we get for the money: that quad-core Tegra 3, 1.2-megapixel front camera, NFC and 1280 x 800, IPS-based LCD are traits we'd normally look for in a pricier tablet. How much pricier, you ask? Google is asking just $199 for a dainty 8GB model and $249 for a 16GB version -- that's a lot of speed for the money, especially with a $25 Google Play credit and a slew of bundled content. There's no SD card slot, however. We'll test the Nexus 7 as soon as we can, but you can swing by Google Play (and possibly local stores) to order one in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US with a mid-July shipping window.

Check out our full coverage of Google I/O 2012's opening keynote at our event hub!

Legal issues loom over 3D printing and copyright | Virtual Web NEWS

Photo illustration: Andrew B. Myers

Last winter, Thomas Valenty bought a MakerBot ? an inexpensive 3-D printer that lets you quickly create plastic objects. His brother had some Imperial Guards from the tabletop game Warhammer, so Valenty decided to design a couple of his own Warhammer-style figurines: a two-legged war mecha and a tank.

He tweaked the designs for a week until he was happy. ?I put a lot of work into them,? he says. Then he posted the files for free downloading on Thingiverse, a site that lets you share instructions for printing 3-D objects. Soon other fans were outputting their own copies.

Until the lawyers showed up.

Games Workshop, the UK-based firm that makes Warhammer, noticed Valenty?s work and sent Thingiverse a takedown notice, citing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Thingiverse removed the files, and Valenty suddenly became an unwilling combatant in the next digital war: the fight over copying physical objects.

The 'airline ticket giveaway' that won't go away

By Bob Sullivan

The letter warned the recipient that she still hadn't responded to that great offer from "US Airlines" of two free airline tickets, and time was running out. Call the toll-free number now! it urged.

Fortunately, Red Tape reader Mary McNamara ignored it and passed it on to me. But somebody must be calling the enclosed toll free number, because the "great airline ticket giveaway" just won't go away. Complaints about it can be found across the web from a couple of days ago, and from at least two years ago.

Let's take care of the basics first. There is no airline called "US Airlines" -- you're thinking of U.S. Airways. That?s no accident; that?s a technique. A variation of the letter is from "American Airways," a bastardized version of American Airlines. Call the number, and you don't get two free airline tickets; you get invited to a 90-minute presentation where you will be encouraged to join a travel club.

?

In the words of travel expert and consumer advocate Chris Elliot: "I have yet to find a travel club that is legitimate."

I called the toll free number and was told I had to travel from Seattle to Portland to attend a meeting before I could receive my free tickets. But the operator, who identified himself as Josh, gave me the option of calling a friend or relative in the Chicago area and sending that person on my behalf to a meeting there. Thanks to their generous referral program, he said, I'd get free tickets just for talking a (soon to be former) friend into attending.

To save yourself the trouble of calling and listening to the pitch, someone recorded their call and posted it on YouTube.

Elliot, by the way, also received one of these free airline ticket letters recently, and wrote about it on his blog.

The free ticket letter offering has been around for at least two years, and inspired a lot of complaints?in April 2011. It is such a nuisance that U.S. Airways had to post a "scam alert" on its website.

A representative to the airline told me that she's worked in the company's public relations department for seven years, and the free ticket letter "just kind of resurfaces from time to time." She reiterated, with a heavy sigh, that the airline was in no way affiliated with the offer.

Why would such an offer persist for years, despite all the warnings about it?

"People don't pay attention to details," said Elliot, also the author of the book, ?Scammed.? ?"US Airlines could exist, and the victims are quickly seduced by the offer. In other words, this thing is still around because it works."

When I asked "Josh" for more details, he said he was working for a company named Universal Travel Deals. The point of the 90-minute meeting -- he called it a "meet and greet" -- was to drum up business for local travel agencies, he said.

"Hopefully, to get people to book travel through them, rather than through those websites, like Travelocity or Expedia," Josh said.?

There are also complaints about Universal Travel Deals in various consumer sites online. When I called the number for a firm named Universal Travel Deals in a Chicago suburb called Tinley Park, a woman who answered confirmed her company was managing free airline ticket offers. When I said I was a reporter, she took my name and number and said she'd have someone return my call. I?m still waiting.

Elliot said he's seen various telephone numbers come and go for the offer, which is a sign that something is wrong.

"The numbers have changed, which suggests to me that they may be moving from state to state," he said. "That's a common tactic to stay a step ahead of state regulators. My guess is this isn't a big enough fish for the Feds to get involved. Either that, or the FTC hasn't received enough complaints about it."

Do letter recipients ever end up with free airline ticket vouchers? That?s unclear, but this much is certain: nothing is really free in this world, and certainly not airline tickets. Letter recipients never get anything just by calling. They have to attend sales meetings, which, according to the few stories posted online by people who claim they?ve attended, exact their own costs.

If you receive an offer like this, please do three things.

1) Read it carefully. It's good practice to find the misleading elements, such as names like "US Airlines."

2) Throw it out and ignore it

3) Complain to your state attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission so someone actually takes a close look what's going on. (Here's a handy contact list for state attorneys general).

"Time's Up!": Reaping What We Sow

by Charles Moncrief

There is a way that seems right, but its end is the way of death.?

Proverbs 14:12?

Rodney King was found dead in his southern California swimming pool on June 17, 2012. You can essentially ignore the medical examiner?s report. No official government report will tell you that the true cause of his death was a pattern of self-destructive behavior that set in motion his inevitable end.

Those in my generation remember Rodney King as an African-American man who was beaten by several Los Angeles police officers during a traffic stop in 1991. An amateur video shows the officers hitting Mr. King with their batons as other officers stood by and watched. The acquittal of the officers by a jury in 1992 provided an excuse for riots in South Central Los Angeles, in which more than 50 people were killed and more than 2,000 were injured. The US District Court effectively re-tried the officers, sending two of them to prison and strong-arming the city of Los Angeles to pay off Rodney King with a $3.5 million civil-rights settlement. Mr. King didn?t keep the settlement very long, and he was unsuccessful at obtaining more from his later arrests for continued drug use and other crimes. Among these arrests were for driving under the influence of PCP when he crashed into a power pole in 2005, and for suspicion of domestic violence. In 2007 police found Mr. King drunk and wounded from gunshot wounds believed to be associated with domestic violence. In all of the arrests the police conduct was reported as EXEMPLARY. No King was harmed in the making of future arrest movies.

The amateur video, which made for excellent propaganda in such places as Moscow and Bagdad, showed the power of editing by major news media. The video didn?t include the high-speed chase, including the number of pursuing units, nor did it show the lives that Mr. King endangered when he drove at freeway speeds through residential streets to evade capture. No propagandists aired Mr. King?s statement that he was fleeing police because he feared the impact a DWI arrest would have on his parole from a previous robbery conviction.

While it appears I'm beating up on Rodney King myself, I can?t argue. Hopefully, I'll mitigate the hammering in my conclusion. Either that, or I'll give additional causes of offense and dilute this a bit. First, however, I want to be perfectly clear about some things.

He DID NOT deserve the beating by officers.
He DID NOT deserve the physical destruction of his life by illegal drug use and other crimes.
He DID NOT deserve the gunshot wounds he sustained on at least one occasion.

While he upped the odds of these things happening, he did not deserve them.

For the mentoring effect he had on the younger generation, showing them examples of how they can clean up financially through a life of crime and civil-rights incidents, it seems that he could have made this speech:

?I've upped my odds. Now up yours.?

I've spent too much time on the Rodney King incident, so now I'm reducing to one-liners the things I wanted to address more fully. Here goes.

Several athletes from Duke University upped their odds of rape charges when they repeatedly hung out in exotic bars and formed relationships with the female employees. For three in 2006, the probability became a certainty.

A person escaping a relationship of domestic violence ups her odds of serious injury when she returns to the home in response to pleas from her husband and the family minister.

A man ups the odds of coronary artery disease when he lives a sedentary lifestyle and consumes inappropriate foods. (Sorry, I can?t get more specific than that. A juicy steak may hurt some, while broom straws and other fibers may hurt others. But you get the idea.)

Fair is fair. I can?t close without returning to make a final comment about Rodney King.

I was disgusted when I learned that he blew through the $3.5 million, disappointed that he didn?t use even a part of the money for drug rehabilitation. Mea culpa. Mr. King may not have used the settlement money to fund any rehabilitation, but he DID make the effort to rebuild his life. He did attend rehabilitation, and he did take to the lecture circuit making speeches about the destructive effects of drug abuse. Even after turning cynic and taking cynical points off Mr. King?s appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew and Sober House, the good that Mr. King did in the last few years must not be allowed to die with him. Even in the dirtiest places, a flower can grow.

Grace and Peace,

Charles+

Morsi goes from prisoner to president

In a reversal of fortunes unthinkable a year and a half ago, an Islamist jailed by Hosni Mubarak has succeeded him as president of the biggest Arab nation in a victory at the ballot box which has historic consequences for Egypt and the Middle East.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Mohammed Morsi will not enjoy the extent of modern, pharaonic powers exercised by Mubarak: those have been curtailed by a military establishment that will decide just how much he will be able to do in government.

Still, the U.S.-trained engineer's victory in the country's first free presidential election breaks a tradition of domination by men from the armed forces, which have provided every Egyptian leader since the overthrow of the monarchy 60 years ago, and installs in office a group that drew on 84 years of grassroots activism to catapult Morsi into the presidency.

He has promised a moderate, modern Islamist agenda to steer Egypt into a new democratic era where autocracy will be replaced by transparent government that respects human rights and revives the fortunes of a powerful Arab state long in decline. Morsi is promising an "Egyptian renaissance with an Islamic foundation".

Yet the stocky, bespectacled 60-year old, appears something of an accidental president: he was only flung into the race at the last moment by the disqualification on a technicality of Khairat al-Shater, by far the group's preferred choice.

With a stiff and formal style, Morsi, who has a doctorate from the University of Southern California, cast himself as a reluctant late comer to the race, who cited religious fear of judgement day as one of his reasons for running. He struggled to shake off his label as the Brotherhood's "spare tire."

Questions remain over the extent to which Morsi will operate independently of other Brotherhood leaders once in office: his manifesto was drawn up by the group's policymakers. The role Shater might play has been one focus of debate in Egypt.

"I will treat everyone equally and be a servant of the Egyptian people," Morsi said at his campaign headquarters in Cairo shortly after polling ended, a week before his victory was confirmed by the Mubarak-era body overseeing the vote.

But many Egyptians, not least the Christian minority, remain suspicious of Morsi and even more so of the group he represents. Anti-Brotherhood sentiment, fuelled by both a hostile media and some of the group's policies, has soared in recent weeks.

Divided nation
Ahmed Shafiq, the former general he defeated, won nearly as many votes as Morsi, signalling that Egypt is a nation that is anything but united around the idea of Brotherhood rule. Morsi won a little less than a quarter of the first-round vote in May.

That a man who served as Mubarak's last prime minister was so close to victory has been seen as one sign of failure by the Brotherhood - which has described itself as the victim of a vicious campaign orchestrated by its enemies.

At first, Morsi pitched himself as a conservative Islamist - the only one in the field, he said. He repeatedly promised to implement Islamic law in speeches peppered with references to God, the Prophet Mohammad and the Koran.

"It was for the sake of the Islamic sharia that men were ... thrown into prison. Their blood and existence rests on our shoulders now," Morsi said in one of his early campaign rallies.

Muslim Brotherhood's Morsi wins Egypt election

Though not one of those jailed for years, he was held on more than one occasion by Mubarak's feared state security men.

But he has seldom spelled out what precisely his call to implement sharia, or Islamic law, would mean for Egypt, where piety runs deep and the constitution already defines the principles of the sharia as the main source of legislation.

Morsi has said Brotherhood rule would not mean that Egypt will be a theocracy, adding that there is little difference between the phrase "the principles of the sharia" - the term found in the current constitution - and the sharia itself.

Pushed by one TV interviewer to clarify what Islamist rule might mean for bikinis on Red Sea beaches - and so for Egypt's vital tourist industry - Morsi did not give a clear answer.

He described such issues as "very marginal, very superficial and affecting a very limited number of places", adding that sector specialists must be consulted on all draft laws.

It was typical of the vagueness that has fuelled concerns among those Egyptians whose fears were also exacerbated by other elements of the Morsi campaign, including his early efforts to court the ultraorthodox Salafi Islamist movement.

In a gesture to Gama'a al-Islamiya, one such group, Morsi pledged to work for the release of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, a militant preacher imprisoned in the United States for planning the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

Another cleric, the independent Safwat el-Hegazi, added a radical flavour to Morsi's early campaign, taking to the stage at his events to call for a Muslim super-state across the Middle East with Jerusalem as its capital - a direct challenge to Israel with whom Mubarak maintained a 33-year-old peace treaty.

Morsi subsequently distanced himself from such statements, but not before the Shafiq campaign had used them to great effect to paint the Brotherhood's man as a dangerous radical.

Asked about Hegazy's remarks, Morsi later spoke of European Union-style integration for the Arab world and an Arab common market. "Jerusalem is in our hearts and vision," he said. "But Cairo is Egypt's capital."

As he readied himself for the run-off against Shafiq, Morsi switched to a more inclusive message and portrayed himself as defender of the "Jan. 25 revolution" that toppled Mubarak - an uprising initially led not by the wary Brotherhood but by mainly secular, liberal groups among Egypt's urban youth.

The Brotherhood has long been at the heart of the movement for democratic reform in Egypt, but he was a hard sell to many of those youth activists, who said his group was slow to join the anti-Mubarak uprising and who subsequently accused the Brotherhood of cosying up to the generals who then took over.

Morsi won few open endorsements from politicians and parties beyond the various Islamist factions, though the "April 6 movement" - one of the protest groups that ignited the anti-Mubarak revolt - was a notable exception.

"We face a decisive moment in our history, we must halt the farce of the former regime," Morsi said in one of his last television interviews before the run-off. "We face a new era and we cannot allow the return of the former regime."

Morsi worked to address some of the criticisms faced by his group. In the last week of his campaign, he put in writing his promises of an inclusive administration, to protect media freedoms and those of minorities, including Christians whose fear of the Islamists drove many of them to vote for Shafiq.

He also sought to reassure the generals about his group's intentions. In a June 14 interview, he said the Brotherhood would seek agreement with the military over the next defence minister. The army, he said, would also remain "protector of the interior" for up to two years while the Interior Ministry - a largely unreformed vestige of Mubarak's rule - was restructured.

In any case, the army enacted a court order that same day to dissolve the Brotherhood-led parliament and, as polling ended, issued a decree taking legislative power for itself, among measures that will sharply constrain the presidency.

Morsi travelled across the country, promoting the Brotherhood's "renaissance project" - an 80-page manifesto based on what it terms its "centrist understanding" of Islam.

The son of a peasant farmer, Morsi has spoken of a simple childhood in a village in the Nile Delta province of Sharqia, recalling how his mother taught him prayer and the Koran. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Southern California in 1982 after earlier studying at Cairo University.

Following his studies in the United States, he returned to Egypt in 1985. Two of his five children hold U.S. citizenship.

Head of the Freedom and Justice Party, which the Brotherhood established last year to promote its aims in the new party political system, Morsi has been described as an apparatchik.

His daughter is married to the son of another Brotherhood leader and he has described his wife, who wears a long, cape-like headscarf, as a Brotherhood activist.

The Brotherhood's "renaissance" programme sketches out the group's vision on everything from fighting inflation to remaking ties with the United States as a partnership of equals. It envisions deeper ties with Turkey - a Muslim state which Brotherhood leaders often cite as a model of success.

On Israel, Morsi's views reflect those of the Brotherhood. He has called for a review of Cairo's 1979 peace treaty with its Jewish neighbour, saying Egypt's neighbour has not respected the accord. But the group has said it will not renege on the deal.

Morsi has cited fear of judgment day as one reason for seeking the top office. He said: "We are worried that God will ask us, on the day of reckoning: 'What did you do when you saw that the nation was in need of sacrifice and effort?'"

(AP) ? Thousands of employees were evacuated Thursday from a seven-story government building as more than two dozen fire engines battled a major blaze that raged for several hours in India's financial and entertainment capital.

Rescuers pulled two bodies from the gutted sixth floor of the Maharashtra state government headquarters in southern Mumbai, a state government official said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to talk to reporters.

Earlier, T. P. Lahane, dean of the state-run J.J. Hospital in southern Mumbai, said 14 people were injured, and 10 of them were hospitalized. He also said one person was in critical condition.

Television images showed some people being taken on stretchers as the blaze and the billowing smoke engulfed from the fourth floor upward. A strong sea breeze fanned the fire, which could be seen for kilometers (miles).

Firefighters used hydraulic platforms to evacuate trapped people, and two navy helicopters hovered over the building to pick up people from the rooftop.

Prithviraj Chavan, the state's top elected official, said he had asked police to investigate the cause of the fire which devastated three floors of the building.

Some witnesses complained that the firefighters took almost half an hour to reach the site.

The New Delhi Television News channel said nearly 2,500 state employees and 2,000 visitors were in the building when the fire broke out.

CLEVELAND (AP) - Swept in Cincinnati last week, the Indians came home and returned the favor.

Justin Masterson finished off the Reds - completely.

Masterson pitched a three-hitter for his first complete game this season and the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians capped off a three-game sweep with an 8-1 win Wednesday night.

Masterson (4-6) took a shutout into the eighth before the Reds ended the right-hander's streak of consecutive scoreless innings at 18. He did not walk a batter and struck out nine, including the side in the ninth, for his fourth career complete game. Cincinnati's only run was unearned.

"He was just terrific," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "He pounded the strike zone with that heavy sinker. It was going down like a bowling ball."

Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three-run homer and Johnny Damon hit a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Bronson Arroyo (3-5). Lonnie Chisenhall added three RBIs for the Indians, who played poorly while losing three in a row last week in southern Ohio, but have turned things around to move back atop their division.

"We're a resilient team," said Masterson, who became the first Cleveland pitcher to record a complete game at home since 2010. "I think we'll be able to carry this momentum on the road and have a lot of fun with it."

It was the first time the Reds and Indians had faced each other as first-place teams since 1999, and Masterson made sure Cleveland came out on top.

The Reds did not get a runner to second against Masterson until the eighth. Cabrera booted Jay Bruce's leadoff grounder to shortstop and Todd Frazier doubled with one out. Willie Harris followed with an RBI groundout, the first run given up by Masterson since June 9 in St. Louis - a career-best 18 innings.

Masterson capped the ninth by getting the dangerous Joey Votto to look at strike three, an exclamation point on his dominant performance.

"There was a little fire there," Masterson said. "I wanted to close it out."

Reds manager Dusty Baker knew Masterson was capable of shutting down his team.

"When he's on, he's very tough," Baker said, "and he was on tonight. His ball was moving everywhere."

Masterson's record may not show it, but he's been one of Cleveland's most consistent starters.

This was his fourth straight quality outing, and for a change, the Indians gave him some run support. He had received two or fewer runs in his previous eight starts and the Indians were averaging just 2.95 runs per nine innings for him, the worst support in the AL and fourth-lowest in the majors.

He was grateful for the runs, but was just as pleased for his teammates.

"It's nice for them, too," he said. "It makes them feel good. I think sometimes they wear themselves out when they're not scoring as many runs for me or anybody. It's nice to have a game where we score quite a few and win it easily."

Other than hitting Chris Heisey with a pitch in the first inning, Masterson was in complete control of the Reds.

He didn't give up a hit until the fourth when Heisey pulled a single down the third-base line past Jack Hannahan, who was playing up on the infield grass and couldn't reach it with a backhand dive. Votto singled in the seventh and Frazier's double were all Cincinnati could muster against Masterson.

"It was as good as it gets," Acta said.

Masterson got some defensive help when catcher Lou Marson gunned down Heisey in the fourth and right fielder Shin-Soo Choo raced back to snag Scott Rolen's drive in the fifth.

After letting Arroyo off the hook in the first three innings, the Indians tagged him for five runs in the fourth as Damon and Cabrera homered.

Damon, who came in batting just .190 but has been making contributions on and off the field, connected for his third homer to make it 2-0.

Casey Kotchman singled with one out before the 38-year-old Damon drove a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right. Damon, who missed all of training camp before signing with the Indians on April 17, has been showing signs of busting out of a prolonged slump. He's batting .295 (13 for 44) in his past 16 games.

"It's encouraging to see it." Acta said of Damon. "He got off to a very slow start and I know that a lot of people are going to keep looking at the batting average and stuff, but I can point out at least five games over the last 10 days where Johnny has had something to do with us winning the ballgame."

Chisenhall walked for the first time in 57 at-bats this season, and Choo drew a two-out walk to bring up Cabrera, whose two-run, walk-off homer against closer Aroldis Chapman won Tuesday's game. Cabrera fell behind 0-2 before hitting his eighth homer, a shot over the wall in right-center.

Arroyo was charged with five runs and eight hits in four innings - his shortest outing this season. The right-hander has just one win in his last eight starts.

The Indians went up 8-0 in the seventh when they loaded the bases off Alfredo Simon and Chisenhall laced a double into the right-field corner.

Notes: Votto has hit safely in nine straight games and 24 of 25. In that span, he's batting .484 (44 of 91) with six homers and 17 RBIs. ... Browns QB Brandon Weeden threw out the ceremonial first pitch. ... Reds 2B Brandon Phillips' hopes of being credited with an inside-the-park homer were denied by Major League Baseball. Phillips had appealed a ruling in Monday's game, when he was given an RBI double on a ball that skipped past left fielder Damon, who was charged with a two-base error. ... Indians DH Travis Hafner took batting practice the past two days and is moving toward a return from knee surgery. Hafner still needs to run and will likely go on a rehab assignment before being activated. ... Both teams are off Thursday. The Indians begin a three-game series in Houston on Friday while the Reds will host Minnesota.
