The baseball teams from Batavia and Geneva left St. Charles North Tuesday still uncertain of what time they will play tomorrow.
That's a good thing, especially considering the Bulldogs and Vikings finished pool play with 2-1 records that give both a chance to play for the title at St. Charles North's Stinger Classic wood bat tournament sponsored by Hoosier Bat Company.
The seeding for tomorrow's seventh, fifth, third place and championship games will be determined by today's pool play games, but Geneva and Batavia are both in good shape.
The Vikings fell to Glenbard North 3-1 in the tourney opener yesterday, but came back to top Kaneland in the second leg of a doubleheader. In the early game today, Brandon Everett's infield single plated Stefan Graham (walk) with the winning run as the Vikings topped St. Charles North 2-1. Frankie Farry's single to score Anthnoy Calcagno (hit by pitch) in the fourth was the North Stars' lone run. Tony Landi allowed just one hit in picking up the win for Geneva.
The small sweet spot of the wood bats hasn't effected the Bulldogs' offense too much.
They pounded West Aurora in their tourney opener Monday, scoring eight times in the top of the third inning en route to a 13-6 win. Lake Park got the better of the Bulldogs Monday afternoon, but the hot bats came through again Tuesday. Batavia erased a 3-0 deficit to earn a 6-5 win over Belleville East.
Luke Horton went the distance on the mound, Micah Coffey swung a hot stick and the Bulldogs ended the game with an unassisted double play at second base.
Wednesday is the tournament's final day. First pitch in the seventh place game is at 9 a.m. and the championship game is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.
