After years of mismanagement by Democrats, our state?s education system has finally seen the reforms that were so desperately needed. Under the fiscally prudent leadership of Governor Walker and the Republican Legislature, we have made great strides to ensure that every child in Wisconsin has access to a world class education.
The difficult, but prudent, choices made during the last two years paved the way for us to invest in our priorities going forward.
Governor Scott Walker?s plan invests more than $475 million in our state education system. This investment will ensure that our schools and teachers have the tools needed to succeed with an emphasis on high performance, accountability and results.
We want our high performing schools to be the litmus test for our under performing schools to emulate. This model will give our kids what they need ? a roadmap to future success. Our state?s best and brightest public school teachers have the ability to affect change from day one, and they should be compensated for their efforts through merit and their ability to truly educate our state?s students.
Beyond this, Governor Walker is making bold investments in the School Choice program to guarantee that parents have the best possible options available for their children. After the successful launch of School Choice programs in the Milwaukee and Racine areas, Governor Walker recently announced his intention to expand this program to struggling districts in the state. The goal in mind is to provide a quality education to each and every child in the Badger State regardless of where they live or their financial means.
By expanding School Choice and investing properly in our public school system, we are poised to grant access to a world class education to every child in Wisconsin. Governor Walker?s bold plan gives parents back the control they so desperately need to ensure that their children get the education that they not only want, but that they deserve.
Together, we are making the difference in the lives of students today so that they can become the highly skilled employees of tomorrow.
